Summary
Long-term disorders of consciousness, such as the vegetative state or the unresponsive waking syndrome and the minimally conscious state, are among the worst possible outcomes of acquired brain injury. This article provides an overview of the diagnostics, prognosis, and treatment options for patients with these complex clinical pictures with a recommendation for more
cooperation between primary and secondary care specialists.
