Chain development LBS
Chain Development for people with a Long-Term Consciousness Disorder (KOLBeSt)
The realisation of appropriate care and a closed care chain for people with a long-term disorder of consciousness (LBS) has come a step closer with the acquisition of this project. EENnacoma is very grateful to the Brain Foundation for the subsidy to work on this goal for two years from the spring of 2020. This takes up an important part of the bottlenecks and development agenda from the report 'Towards more awareness: appropriate care for people with long-term consciousness disorders' (Brain Foundation 2018).
Purpose
In the project Chain Development for people with a Long-Term Consciousness Disorder (KOLBeSt), the care for people with long-term consciousness disorders (LBS) will be further elaborated in a number of work packages over a period of 2 years. This concerns the following components:
-
Setting up a mobile team and developing a diagnostic protocol within the framework of a diagnostic centre
-
Chain improvement and embedding in the expertise network
-
Knowledge development, disclosure and dissemination, including a study of the size and characteristics of people in a minimally conscious state and a development agenda for relatives
Where are we now?
The project started in March 2020. Due to the prevailing corona pandemic, some parts have been delayed somewhat.
- All working groups have now been started and are ongoing.
- A baseline measurement was carried out, which provided numerical insights into the LBS chain. On this basis, bottlenecks are addressed.
- Efforts are being made to develop a social map and proposal for registration.
- A substantive draft text about the diagnostic process is being worked on and a draft article is being worked on.
- Two competency profiles are being developed with a specialization in LBS.
- This year, a new version of the Long-Term Intensive Neurorehabilitation (LIN) care program in specialized nursing homes will be completed.
- The research into the size and characteristics of the group of people in a minimally conscious state has been prepared; due to Covid-19, the implementation is expected to be possible again from September 2021.
Cooperation and subsidy provider
The project is funded by the Brain Foundation. In the work package on chain development, there is collaboration with Vilans (Marjan Hurkmans). The user committee also involves representatives of hospitals and patient associations/relatives.
