Masterclass LBS
EENnacoma has launched an online masterclass in collaboration with the Brain Foundation. The masterclass is about long-term disorders of consciousness and is especially for healthcare providers.
Every year, thousands of people in the Netherlands fall into a coma due to severe brain damage. Usually a coma lasts only a short time, and the patient quickly regains consciousness. But it is also possible that someone opens his eyes again and breathes independently, and yet does not seem to be aware of his own existence and that of the environment, or only to a very limited extent. We call this a long-term disorder of consciousness (LBS).
In recent years, the care for people with an LBS has changed dramatically, partly thanks to the efforts of the Brain Foundation and the expertise network EENnacoma. Patients now receive more appropriate care, with the intention of helping them recover to an outcome that they would find acceptable. Healthcare providers, such as doctors, nurses and therapists, have a great need for information about LBS. Because healthcare, especially now, is under great pressure and it is difficult to have experts provide training for a long time, EENnacoma has come up with an innovative solution for this.
With the 45-minute online masterclass on LBS, which is made available online for free by EENnacoma, everyone who provides care to patients with LBS can learn the most important facts. What levels of consciousness are there? What treatment options do we have in the Netherlands today? Which moral themes play a role in the care of people with a long-term disorder of consciousness? The film answers these and many more questions. As a healthcare provider, you can watch the masterclass on LBS online at a time that suits you best. Of course, the masterclass is also available for family members of patients and policymakers.
