For whom?
Since 1992, WZH Berkendael has specialized in care for people with very severe brain injury after coma, including the care and treatment of people with Long-Term Disorders of Consciousness (LBS). Since 2016, WZH Nieuw Berkendael has been involved nationally with the aim of developing appropriate care for people with very serious brain injury within the national Expertise Network Serious Brain Injury (EENnacoma) in collaboration with eight care organizations. All clients with LBS are entitled to good care in the acute, post-acute and chronic and palliative phases.
WZH Nieuw Berkendael has the ambition to develop into a Target Group Expertise Center (DEC) for people with LBS after recently acquired brain injury (post-acute phase) and a Regional Expertise Center for people with LBS in the chronic phase (REC). The aim is to take the care and treatment of people with LBS to a higher level, in which chain cooperation, development of care programs, research, increasing expertise and knowledge are important components.
In addition, WZH Nieuw Berkendael has the ambition to develop into a REC for people with ABI and serious behavioural problems (ABI plus).
Treatment and care
WZH Nieuw Berkendael offers the following care and treatment programs:
- Long-term intensive neurorehabilitation for people with a long-term consciousness disorder
- Rehabilitation for people with recent brain injury, including cognitive rehabilitation
- Chronic Care Program for People with Long-Term Consciousness Disorder
- Living for people with ABI and serious behavioural problems (ABI Plus)
- Housing for people with ABI
- Day activity center including complementary care
- ABI Clinic (ambulatory screening, diagnostics and treatment)
- Ambulatory counseling, ABI Coach
